How To Make Roti Pizza with Cilantro Chutney with Priya
You love pizza. But you also love Roti. So how do you combine the two together on a plate? Well, it’s called Roti Pizza! And not only is it fun to say-it tastes amazing too! In this blog post, we’ll show you how Priya makes her delicious roti pizza with cilantro chutney so that you can try it out for yourself at home.
What Is Roti Pizza?
Roti Pizza is a fusion dish that combines Indian comfort foods- Roti and pizza. The dough for the pizza crust is made with an egg, flour, oil, salt mixture to form a malleable dough. However, in this easy-to-create recipe, you can use pre-made Roti or whole wheat tortillas to enjoy the same taste without the extra prep!
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch cilantro, approximately 4 cups
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 small Indian green chile
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 4 Rotis or whole wheat tortillas
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 small red onion
Are You Out of Cilantro?
Did you know that you can swap out cilantro for coriander? They both come from the same plant and can be used interchangeably in your recipes. Cilantro is the stem and leaves of the coriander plant. While cilantro has more of a tangy citrus flavor, coriander is closer to a nutty flavor. If you’re looking for a change in your recipe, try switching up these ingredients!
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
- Lay each Roti on a perforated pizza pan
- Drizzle a touch of olive oil on each Roti and spread out the oil on the surface of the Roti with your fingertips until each is completely coated.
- Bake between 4 to 6 minutes or until you see each Roti become a golden-brown color.
- Remove from the oven and add more olive oil onto each Roti and repeat the process of spreading out the oil on the surface of the Roti with your fingertips.
- Next, lay a few pieces of onion on each Roti, followed by a generous topping of cheddar cheese.
- Put the pan back into the oven for 5 to 7 minutes until the edges are crispy and the cheese has melted. Remove from the oven.
- While the Roti is cooling, create the cilantro chutney by combining the salt, sugar, fresh lime juice, Indian green chile, and chopped cilantro into a blender. Combine until the mixture is smooth.
- After the Roti has cooled for at least two minutes, drizzle them with the freshly created cilantro chutney, adding approximately 1 to 2 tablespoons per Roti.
- Cut the pizza into smaller slices and enjoy!
